“What will we have after six months?” is the most reasonable question a business can ask before signing an SEO contract, and the one that gets the vaguest answers. Some agencies dodge it. Others answer it with a ranking guarantee, which is a warning sign in itself.
This guide gives an honest picture of what you can reasonably expect from an SEO agency in Dubai in the first six months, month by month, what should be visible by when, and what depends on factors outside anyone’s control. It contains no guaranteed numbers, because no honest provider can give you any.
The short answer
In six months you should expect a fixed technical foundation, optimised key pages, a steady content programme, early movement in impressions and rankings, and the first organic enquiries. You should not expect to dominate competitive searches. Where you land depends on your starting point, your competition and how quickly changes are approved and published.
Why six months is a fair test
Search engines need time to crawl changes, assess new content and gather signals. New pages often take weeks to be indexed and months to reach their potential position. Six months is long enough to see a clear direction of travel, and short enough that you can still change course. We cover the reasons in more detail in our guide to how long SEO takes to show results.
What affects your results
- Starting point: a new domain with no history behaves very differently from a ten-year-old site with a few strong pages.
- Competition: “dentist in Business Bay” is a different fight from a niche B2B service with few competitors.
- Site health: technical problems can hold back everything else.
- Speed of approvals: a content plan only works if drafts are reviewed and pages are published on time.
- Budget and scope: a small retainer produces less output than a larger one, and that shows in the pace of results.
- Quality of the offer: SEO brings visitors, but weak pages, slow replies and poor follow-up waste them.
A month-by-month view
| Period | What the agency should be doing | What you can reasonably see |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | Access set-up, technical audit, keyword research, competitor review, tracking set-up | A written plan, baseline numbers and a list of priority fixes |
| Month 2 | Fixing technical issues, optimising key service pages, Google Business Profile work, first content | Cleaner site, improved page titles and descriptions, first new pages indexed |
| Month 3 | Regular content, internal linking, early authority work | Rising impressions in Search Console, early ranking movement for lower-competition terms |
| Month 4 | More content and page improvements based on what is starting to work | More search terms bringing impressions and some clicks, first organic enquiries for some businesses |
| Month 5 | Refining pages that rank on page two, building supporting content, reviewing links | Pages moving closer to the first page, steadier traffic |
| Month 6 | Full review of results against the baseline, plan for the next six months | A clear trend in visibility and enquiries, and evidence about what to scale |
This is a typical pattern, not a promise. Some businesses see faster movement, especially when a site had untapped potential. Others take longer. The important point is that something measurable should be improving at each stage.
Month 1: the foundation
Expect very little traffic change in the first month, and be suspicious of anyone who claims otherwise. The work is groundwork: auditing the site, setting up Search Console and analytics properly, agreeing keywords, and recording where you stand today. Without a baseline, you cannot prove progress later. Our guide to what an SEO agency should audit first describes this stage.
Months 2 and 3: visible changes
By the second month you should see tangible improvements on your site: faster pages, fixed errors, rewritten titles and meta descriptions, stronger service pages and new content going live. In Google Search Console, impressions (how often your pages appear in results) usually rise before clicks do. This is an early and healthy signal.
A realistic example
Say a Dubai interior design studio appears for 40 search terms at the start. After three months of work, it appears for 120, mostly at positions between 11 and 30. Traffic has barely changed, yet the foundation is clearly growing. A report that explains this honestly is more useful than one that hides it. These figures are an illustration, not a result from a specific client.
Months 4 to 6: the first returns
This is when many businesses see their first organic enquiries, calls from their Business Profile and rising clicks on commercial pages. Pages that sit on the second page of results often move up with extra content, internal links and refinements. The agency should now be using data to decide what to do more of.
Local businesses can sometimes see faster results than national ones because local searches are less crowded and Business Profile improvements can show quickly. Our guide to Google Business Profile SEO explains what that involves.
What you should receive at six months
- A before-and-after comparison of impressions, clicks, rankings for target terms and, if tracked, enquiries.
- A list of everything delivered: fixes made, pages optimised, content published and links earned.
- An explanation of what worked, what did not and why.
- A plan for the next period, with reasons for the priorities.
The numbers that deserve attention are explained in our guide to SEO reporting metrics. Rankings alone are not the goal. Enquiries and revenue are.
What six months will probably not deliver
- Top positions for the most competitive, high-volume terms in your sector.
- A replacement for paid advertising if you rely on it for immediate leads.
- A fixed number of leads or sales. Anyone promising one is guessing.
- Results from work that has not been implemented, such as content stuck in approval.
If you need leads right away, SEO works best alongside paid search while the organic foundation builds. We compare the two in SEO vs Google Ads.
When six months is a warning sign
If, by month six, you still have no clear report, no improvement in impressions, no new pages and no explanation, something is wrong. Questions to ask:
- Were the agreed deliverables actually completed each month?
- Were there blockers on our side, such as slow approvals or a developer who has not made changes?
- Is the target market far more competitive than we assumed?
- Are we measuring the right things?
- Does the plan for the next six months look different from the last six, and does the change make sense?
Our guide to red flags when hiring SEO agencies in Dubai describes the warning signs that tend to appear early.
How you can speed things up
- Approve drafts and fixes quickly.
- Give the agency access to your developer, your analytics and your sales team’s feedback.
- Share real customer questions, which make the best content topics.
- Collect genuine customer reviews on Google.
- Make sure enquiries are answered fast, including on WhatsApp, so the traffic you earn converts.
Results by type of business
The same six months can look quite different depending on what you sell. These are general patterns, not guarantees.
Local service businesses (clinics, salons, home services)
Local searches are driven by the map pack and reviews as much as by the website. A well-managed Business Profile, accurate listings, a steady flow of genuine reviews and service pages for each area can produce calls and direction requests earlier than a national content strategy would. Typical early wins come from fixing basic gaps, such as missing categories, outdated hours or no service pages.
B2B and professional services
Search volumes are lower, but each enquiry can be worth far more. Progress is often slower to appear in traffic and faster to show in lead quality. A handful of well-built service pages and authority articles on questions buyers ask before contacting you can matter more than volume. Expect the sales cycle to add further delay between first visit and signed deal.
Ecommerce
Larger sites have more to fix and more to grow. Category pages, product page quality, internal linking and site speed usually come first. Six months can show clear growth in impressions and category rankings, while revenue depends heavily on pricing, stock, delivery and checkout, which SEO does not control.
Real estate and high-competition sectors
Property searches in Dubai are dominated by large portals and well-established agencies. For a smaller brokerage, realistic early targets are niche searches, such as a specific community, building type or buyer profile, backed by strong local content, rather than the broadest terms.
How to read a six-month report honestly
When the report arrives, check these points before you decide anything:
- Is there a baseline? Every number should be compared with where you started.
- Are the numbers tied to goals? Rankings for obscure terms look impressive and mean nothing if they do not bring customers.
- Is seasonality accounted for? Summer travel, Ramadan and year-end periods change search behaviour in the UAE, so compare like with like where possible.
- Are problems named? A report with no bad news is a report that is hiding something.
- Is the next step clear? You should finish reading knowing what happens in months seven to twelve and why.
Frequently asked questions
Can an SEO agency guarantee first-page rankings in six months?
No. Search engines decide rankings and nobody controls them. A trustworthy agency promises specific work and clear reporting, not positions.
Will I get leads in the first three months?
Some businesses do, especially local ones with a neglected Business Profile, but most should plan for the first three months being foundation work.
What if my traffic drops early on?
Changes such as restructuring pages or removing low-quality content can cause temporary movement. Ask your agency to explain any drop clearly and what they are doing about it.
Is six months enough for a new website?
A new domain usually takes longer to build trust, so expect a slower start and judge progress on impressions, indexing and ranking for lower-competition terms first.
